Margaret (Marg) Belfry married William (Bill) Lynn 17 December, 1960, at
1(F) Wing, RCAF, Marville, France. Thus 17 December, 2010
was our 50th wedding anniversary. Who'd a thunk it?|
Our celebration of this momentous happening involved two events. The first was dinner on Dec. 17th at Restaurant Bellissimo in Dorval, with our daughter Heather-Anne and her husband John, and Dennis, who was the Best Man at our wedding. Dennis' wife Marg passed away March 15, 2010, three months before their 50th wedding anniversary.
The second event was a wine and cheese reception at Casa Loma in Toronto on Monday, 27 December from 2-4 PM. This venue was chosen because our family and 1960's era friends are mostly in Toronto.
Following are some photos from the two events. The ones at Casa Loma were taken by our granddaughter, Raya. (The photos can be picked to see a larger version.)
|December 17th, 2010, at our house,|
A bottle of Cockburn's 1960 Vintage Port from the Hubbells and a bottle of Mumm's Champagne from Dennis marked the occasion.|
The Port came in a fancy box and, being 50 years old, presented a bit of a challenge to open and decant.
The Champagne provided a nice Pop! as it opened.

With Christmas celebrations, the restaurant was busier|
and noisier than usual, but the meal was enjoyable.
|Somebody let the cat out of the bag about our 50th, so a cake was brought with candles for us to blow out.|
|As we prepared to leave, the waiter snapped a shot of us all.|
|The Toronto celebration on 27 Dec was held at Casa Loma, a mansion in north central Toronto, owned by the City of Toronto and run since 1937 by the Kiwanis Club as a place for meetings, birthday parties, weddings, etc. Even some Torontonians have never been there, and in its festive Christmas décor it was quite a lovely setting.|
Marg took a photo when we visited in November, and|
the winter view is from the Casa Loma website.
Looks a bit foreboding from the outside.
The reception was held in the Austen room on the third floor.
A Christmas tree in the corner|
and poinsettias (by Brian & Janet) all around lent a seasonal air.
Three round tables in the centre of the room bore snacks, while allowing folks to mingle
around the room or catch a drink from the bar.
The guest book fronted a 1960 photo to compare to today's
and 50th anniversary napkins completed the décor.
Our granddaughter, Raya, took the photos at the event.|
She did a fabulous job of catching most folks in appropriate groups,
even though she did not know many of them.
Then she went home to England to edit the photos, all the while
moving into a new apartment and keeping up with her busy job,
which involved travel to Vienna and Tanzania in January.
Bill's obligatory discourse basically gave thanks:|
1) to whomever sent Margaret in September 1959 to teach Air Force children at 1(F) Wing, RCAF, Marville, France, where Bill happened to be stationed. (And the rest is history.)
2) to whatever powers that be have blessed us with two wonderful offspring, two equally wonderful offspring-in-laws, and four amazing grandchildren.
3) to all the folks who took the time to come and celebrate with us.
Since the attendees came from various areas of our lives, an effort was made to introduce everyone, in order to break the ice for subsequent mixing.
Raya caught the audience in rapt (captive?) attention.
The speech ended with a toast to Marg and Dennis,
who were Matron of Honour and Best Man for our wedding.
Their 50th anniversary was in June, 2010, but Marg
passed away in March, 2010 after an incredible battle with
cancer complicated by diabetes.|
Dennis then offered a toast to Marg and Bill.
